Mark 4:21-25
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?
22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.
23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”
24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.
25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
Mark 4:21-25: Verse-by-Verse Analysis
Verse 21: “He said to them, ‘Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?'”
Jesus uses a simple analogy. A lamp is meant to give light. Hiding it defeats its purpose. This verse emphasizes the importance of visibility and revelation.
Verse 22: “For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.”
Jesus speaks of divine truths. Hidden things will eventually be revealed. This applies to both good and evil. Nothing stays hidden forever.
Verse 23: “If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”
This is a call to attention. Jesus urges listeners to be receptive. Spiritual understanding requires active listening.
Verse 24: “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.”
Jesus warns about discernment. The effort you put into understanding will be rewarded. Generosity in understanding leads to greater insight.
Verse 25: “Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
This verse speaks of spiritual abundance. Those who seek and understand will gain more. Those who neglect will lose even what little they have.
